Deise Waterford Greenway
I headed out to see the Deise Waterford Greenway today. Whilst it is still very much under construction the section from Dungarvan, through Clonea and out as far as Leamybrien looks spectacular. The first access point is in Abbeyside in Dungarvan, just across the road from the park. You can then ride out for about 15k at the moment but over time will be able to cycle all the way to Waterford. Coming from Waterford you can take the first left after Leamybrien and you will find it about 2k down that road turning right onto the greenway.

What a lovely trail. Here in the Midwest US, we prefer roads to trails for the bigger views. Not so with this trail.

I really hope Cork County Council are paying attention to this as their Cork – Kinsale Greenway is currently stalled. It offers a lot of promise such as a cycle path over the iconic Viaduct railway bridge and almost 1k tunnel in Ballinhassig out in County Cork. Believe current issues are either or both of compulsory land purchase order/landowner negotiations and funding. The Mayo Greenway with its obvious tourism success and the Deise Greenway which will prove to be resounding asset are, in a way no brainers – fingers crossed Cork County Council puts the wheels back in motion for the Cork – Kinsale gr eenway. Actually I’ll send a copy of this article to Cork County Council to get an update on this!
