The Nissan Classic GC Sheet

Today I was doing a little organising when I came across a piece of paper that I had almost forgotten about. It was a GC sheet, not one from a race I myself had taken part in but from The Nissan Classic, and one stage in particular. The Nissan Classic time trial from Carrick on Suir to Clonmel.

The copy  that I have emanated from O’Gormans Bakery in Clonmel. Anthony rode the Nissan in ’85 and both Anthony and Dick rode the 1986 race, more of which you can read about here : Home town heroes

The great Sean Kelly inspired a generation of school kids to become cyclists during those fateful days and became a HERO to many.

This is what a GC sheet from that fateful day back in 1985 looks like :

And this is a brief glimpse of the great man in action

This was long before the days of STRAVA with a section that is almost 2 kilometres shorter than what was used back in 1985

That’s fantastic barry, hadn’t read the hometown heroes one until now. When I worked in clonmel I used often pop into O’Gorman’s for a sandwich – very nice family run business but hadn’t realised the cycling history. Fair play to them.
