Do it while you still can

This morning as I stood outside a hotel waiting for my lift to the airport I watched the people passing by.

Many were on their way to work, some were going shopping, but two really caught my eye.

An old man slowly made his way carefully along the cobblestoned footpath. His eyes flicked from looking up ahead to down at the ground and back up again. He was concentrating on avoiding any possible obstacles to his slow progress.

Then behind him a pilgrim came bounding along. Cargo shorts, fleece jacket and walking poles protruding from his backpack all bore the hallmarks of a man on his way to Santiago de Campostella. As he approached the older man ahead a quick glance spoke volumes.

One man on a journey of hundreds of kilometres by foot beside another to whom a single kilometre was a huge effort. Time nor tide will wait for any man. That’s why it’s so important to do what you can while you still can.

Don’t put off doing things that put life into your days by just filling your days with bland existence until a time where your body will no longer allow you to do the things you dream of. We all have to make a living. But that is so that we can have a life.

Do things that excite you, that inspire you and that make you feel alive. Don’t waste time watching others doing it on tv or Facebook and saying I wish. Instead say I am or at least I will and then plan for it and do it.

Sit down and make a list of all the things that you would like to do, the places you would like to see and the people you would like to meet. Then make a plan of how you will do each one and when.

And Remember, the biggest obstacle to doing anything, is the mind that thinks of the obstacle.

Happy Friday,

Barry
